Get your fingers out of my pie can also be an expression of "get out of my business!" and that's how I take it in this song. If I were to go along with the "rape from a males perspective" theory that's going around, I'd take "she's lucky that I didn't slip her a smile," as him saying, "You're lucky I'm not cruel enough to laugh/smile at your pain." |

I watched an interview where she said that this song was her "thank you" to Cause and Effect. She said C&E helped her move and let go of that anger, and she explains how music saved her. She said, "this is like my long song to music." "I have let go of my demons,they left me when I sang the truth." I like that line particularly. | I think this song is about a friendship that, like she mentions,will always be treasured (or the innocence and unknowingness they shared of life). They weren't meant to be lovers because their egos (,pride) and insecurities got in the way, but their friendships helped each other out along the way. | |
