This song is encouraging people to call on God when we need help. The first name that God revealed to Moses is Yahweh, so "Yah" is short for Yahweh. The rest of the title is ebonics for "Yah will be there". Genesis 22:14 - Abraham named the place Yahweh-Yireh (which means “the Lord will provide”). To this day, people still use that name as a proverb: “On the mountain of the Lord it will be provided.” Exodus 6:2-3 - And God said to Moses, “I am Yahweh—‘the Lord.’ I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob as El-Shaddai—‘God Almighty’—but I did not reveal my name, Yahweh, to them." | As with the other songs written or co-written by Will Jennings, this also has a spiritual meaning. I used to think this was about appreciating the simpler things in life, like laughter or being with the person you love. But now I think it's about enjoying material ("finer things") and spiritual ("the way my soul gets lost in you") possessions. He's kinda obsessed with extending the "fast" life (see also "Back in the High Life Again"). We know this song is about the dark side ("and lovers try til they get the best of the night..."). Even in the morning light, they're still thinking of (worshiping) the night. The "lovers" are the person and the devil dancing/mating together. | |

| A backslider's anthem. He tried to live the slow (godly) life, but now wants the fast (devilish) life again. Will Jennings also wrote "Higher Love", so "high" now has a double meaning. In "Higher Love", he's searching for that high feeling that could come from embracing God (ultimate fulfillment) or the devil (ego fulfillment). At the end, he chooses the devil, though: "I could light the night up with my SOUL on FIRE. I could make the SUN shine with pure DESIRE." Now, he's completely rejecting the godly life for drinking, dancing, and fame ("all the eyes that watched me once will smile and take me in"). There's no personal glory in living the "invisible" godly life. "Let the world back into me and I'll be a sight to see." = "world" is a euphemism for the devil. The Sun rules the Ego (in astrology) and is worshiped by Satanists. Will's father was a methodist preacher, so he knows what all of this means. He wants the devil to take possession of him again so he can enjoy the sinful ("high") life. | |
