I agree with you, ASweetPea. The song is not a happy reunion. It's not all bad either... When the song first started playing on the radio, the band said that it's about a night out, but that it's not supposed to be clear whether it's a good night or a bad night. It's a little of both. |

If you watch the official video, you'll see a lot of conflicting things... people smiling as they're getting hit over the head with a bottle, etc. When this song was first introduced, it was said that it's about a night on the town, and that they (the band) isn't sure if it's a good night or a bad night. It's intentionally ambiguous as to whether it was good or bad, and therefore maybe it's a bit of both.
The evidence to this is in the bittersweet lyrics. There are a lot of things about personal scarring, getting high, lying, falling down, etc. But there's also the element of youthful abandon and just having a good time. |
