I think its obvious what this song is about; the music industry as a girl. Its a witty satire of rap culture's "bitches and money" paradigm without being too obvious. For example, "Yeah yeah real players up in here now, represent" is 2$hort's way of telling the listener that this song is from "real players" - rap artists - which he goes on to make fun of. The first verse, detailing the start of sexual escapades with a lady, is actually about 2$hort's explanation of labels attempting to sign him. His break onto the scene is reiterated by "Waving your hands all up in the air, Better recognize when you see a real player" as this is a literal way of connecting his popularity with the label's recognition of him as a serious rap artist (and then attempts to sign him). Cleverly enough "dick" is really a metaphor for his signature. Whilst he forays a bit in the metaphor for the second (and last) verse, it is obvious that he portraying the act of signing and performing for the label. The first half of this verse, which picks up where the first verse left off, is a witty representation of the label's desperate methods to attempt to sign him. The second half is all about the label's delight ("Get hype wit it its your chance") and his rise to stardom as he gives the audience/label what they want, "Bustin' nuts all in 'yo face open wide I know you love that taste". Bravo, 2$hort. Bravo. |
