I\'m sure this song is about cocaine and it\'s effects. From the beginning: you\'re living but you got no soul, \nCaptivate but you hold no weight...\nIt\'s difficult to feel emotions while on coke/ drinking. It\'s like your soul takes a vacation and there\'s only one feeling: high. Conversations are inevitable, you\'ll talk to anyone about anything but it\'s usually hollow talk that can get annoying:\nSo " you\'re duller than you think you\'re deep,\nAggravate but you always start to speak. " \n\nThe morning is an awakening, everything from the previous night hits you in waves and it can break up that confidence and joy you felt. All the akward feelings you avoided finally come out and it\'s payback. It can feel like your killing the person you were during the party. \nWhen there\'s no alcohol or coke left you get the urge to do something, you need something, you\'re missing something. All you want to do is sleep but it\'s seemingly impossible when your mind is racing "at cocaine speeds".\n\nI never really thought about the "watch as I start to smile" part. I guess it could be a snicker of sorts, like the singer knows what\'s going on and sees the night and following day that\'s about to come to. \nAfter ever party I die I think is a cry. A lament. Something to sing out for everyone who\'s felt this way. |

I have an overwhelming feeling when i try to relate to this song. I grew up in a Christian home and when I moved away after 18 I began to lose touch with Christ and God and such. It was not until a bit later that I began to seek a goodness which Jesus personifies and I found that in the people I met day to day. I returned to sort of faith in Christ that felt different than when I was a kid. That joy a child feels at their birthday party began to return in little moments with down to earth people that know what's important: love.
I think the repetition of the chorus is trying to put us in that childlike joy and feeling of being loved. |
