It's obviously about sexual intercourse. Obviously falls into chemistry. In sex, you're trying to please your partner and working up a sweat. Lots of elements can be infused into sex. But you pretty much give all of yourself to your partner. It's a hot song. |

| Jason Mraz – A Beautiful Mess Lyrics | 10 years ago |
| It's about a guy in love with a complicated girl. their relationship isn't perfect and sometimes downright messy- like when they argue and say hurtful things to each other. But despite the imperfections, he still wants to be with her because he loves her. He admits that it's not always sunshine and rainbows, and that over time it will remain imperfect, but he still loves her despite it. So it's a song about loving a complicated girl. It's really playful how throughout the song he keeps going back to the contradiction theme: "well it 'kind of' hurts ..." Things don't always have to make perfect sense to us to be considered beautiful. | |
| Eagles – Desperado Lyrics | 11 years ago |
| This song is about settling. it is an old timer giving advice to a desperate man, thus the name desperado. Desperado is desperate for love. He is drawn to girls that shine like diamonds to him, but he should really be looking at the girls who are willing to love him. In other words, choose the regular rocks not the gemstones. Now he has options, but he wants better. But he's getting old and is still alone, and he cant choose who to marry because he doesn't like anyone but the ones he can't get. The old timer tells him he'll regret being alone, so to pick a girl that loves him and stop going after the girls he can't have because he'll never have them. If he doesn't settle, he will get nothing. | |
| Backstreet Boys – Show Me The Meaning Of Being Lonely Lyrics | 11 years ago |
|
It's about unrequited love, from the perspective of the person who doesn't love back. "Tell me why I can't be there where you are, there's something missing in my heart" shows he cannot seem to love her back because he doesn't have feelings for her. "Eyes of stone observe the trends, they never say forever gaze upon me," and "you're asking me to feel the things you never show" means she never made it obvious or clear to him that she liked him or wanted more. "Guilty roads to an endless love. There's no control, are you with me now?" He cannot return her feelings. He feels guilty about it, but her love being unrequited is inevitable because he can't reciprocate. It's a sad and beautiful song. |

| Jeff Buckley – Hallelujah (Leonard Cohen cover) Lyrics | 13 years ago |

Hallelujah is an expression; it’s what we say when we worship or rejoice. Throughout the lyrics, you can see the songwriter trying to define to you what hallelujah even means exactly, such as: “And it’s not a cry you hear at night, it’s not somebody who’s seen the light, it’s a cold and it’s a broken hallelujah” Thus, he isn’t talking about faith. Next, it’s important to note that this song has evolution; the character in the music evolves throughout the piece. First stanza- “the minor fall and the major lift, the baffled King composing hallelujah” the story of King David, whose life itself was a composition. Baffled means perplexed; life is never predictable. “But you don’t really care for music, do you?” points to the idea that the songwriter is not referring to the Lord, but to someone else. Second stanza- Notice that he says “THE hallelujah” and not just hallelujah. The lyrics here refer to moments of weakness for great kings in the bible. Third stanza- “You know I used to live alone before I knew ya” the songwriter is no longer alone in his pain, because there is someone else, “you,” who has been in the same situation and place in life as he has. Third stanza- A relationship that has staled. Fourth stanza- “shoot somebody who outdrew ya.” Outdrawing a person means pulling out your gun from your holster before the other person could get to it in order to shoot them. In this case, he is saying that all he ever learned from love was how to get rid of them before they could shoot you down. Fifth stanza- Once again, “And it’s not a cry you hear at night, it’s not somebody who’s seen the light, it’s a cold and it’s a broken hallelujah.” He is talking about betrayal from loved ones, which is a cold and broken “hallelujah.” You can even take that literally. So this song is about betrayal. |

| Gotye – Somebody That I Used To Know Lyrics | 13 years ago |

What an interesting song. I stumbled upon it on youtube and kept rewatching it, because I found it intriguing. I find the art in the MV to be interesting. The song is obviously about a breakup, or a failed relationship. In the beginning, the man was naked and completely ordinary. As the song progresses and we discover that he is reminiscing a failed relationship, his world starts to get painted in shades of gray and beige. Our experiences color our personality, each significant person we meet and defining moment in our lives taint our perspective on the meaning of life. Life is a huge painting, an artwork of experiences that fit into the bigger picture. The artwork that shapes itself is how the man sees the world, the girl was once a part of it. Notice how she is facing away from the screen at first. She is immersed in his world, then suddenly she breaks away when she realizes that she was losing herself and no longer wants to be a part of his life. But when she leaves, she literally cuts herself out of the picture. The colors of his world wash off her. It is as if she never met him. |
