I always have kind of interpreted this song as being about the woman's daughter having an abortion. She still sees her daughter as a baby, but her daughter is growing up and 'likes to get undressed.' The daughter has dealt with the emotional aspects of the abortion but her mother can still sense the 'death in her room.'
Also, I've thought the line was 'she always receives with impeccable poise.' |

"Our whole approach was to get into the world and try to create something that serves the story and the film. There’s something in the story of Abraham and Isaac that I think resonates with the themes in the film, like sacrificing children. So we made a weird, apocryphal, alternate-universe version of that, where it’s as if Abraham had a daughter – kind of a metaphor for Katniss.” |
