"and I don't want the world to see me, cause I don't think that they'd understand" That's why it's titled. Iris is the name of girl he's in love with. It is also a metaphor and the girl he is in love with also symbolises all the people of the world, a society. IMHO |

I totally agree, and the band bring out the problem we have ourselves in this day and age. Teenage girls boys and girls throwing caution to the wind and practising/risking unprotected (and sometimes underage!!) sex. I think that's what they're trying to highlight and combat, singing about all the things they'll miss out on and have to deal with. Laura portrays the "Stereotypical teenage girl" with her lyrics very well. That's my opinion. |

The way I see it, the song is easy to classify as a "generic breakup" and his lyrics mostly throughout appear to make you believe so. But it's not until Kimbra chimes in that it just blows everything up. She talks of her sufferings opposed to his, telling us she's not the only 'bad guy'. Then you look back and think "...fuck!". What he's really singing about is not feeling abandoned, but he's really singing about is that breaking up is what he really wanted after all. I'm personally going through something like that right now, so this song hit me in a beautiful way. She basically feels like I'm not into the relationship, but I feel abandoned by her because I'm not the one putting enough in to the relationship and even I know it. And I still do it, because the loved up with her part of me says I want to be alone and be free, but the free and sonle me says that the's the girl I love, and from being a teenager 7 years ago I always will, no matter what my head sometimes tells me. Anyways sorry for going off on a tangent there, awesome song, well thought out and catchy and receptive to all genres. I love you, Emily x |
