I think it's someone who is about to die and is contemplating "the path" ahead of them so to speak. Their lover has died before them and they are following with yearning. They do not appear to be afraid of death in the least, but regard in it a very mystical quality, which they describe. Or perhaps they are experiencing a genuine NDE. So the imagery is how their see death in their mind, or perhaps even with their own eyes. The "press from the dead" line gets me too. Are we sure those lyrics are official? I always thought it was "prayers from the dead". |
