Creed – My Own Prison Lyrics 13 years ago
Lovely sentiments but an ignorant overall interpretation that leaves much of the lyrical intelligence by the wayside.

Keep in mind that according to human understanding Jesus also "Should have been dead on a Sunday morning"

Yup. Brilliant lyrics in that there is (at least) a dual meaning... At first glance the words indicate a very human feeling of guilt after an extremely wild Saturday night (a suggestion of potential overdoes perhaps) but a deeper look indicates that it is a reference to Jesus himself who (by human standards) "Should have been dead on a Sunday morning" after his crucifixion but instead left an empty tomb for humanity to ponder.

I feel renewed pride when my opinion differs from someone pathetic enough to go out of their way to visit a Creed thread to hate on the band.

To be fair do you troll the Jonas Brothers as well? Because that would be less pathetic on your end of things. I would rather listen to awesome intelligent music deemed "shitty" by lemming morrons simply because it contains traces of Christian themes than listen to the all the increasingly shitty music being produced today.

I'll stop listening to Creed just as soon as someone else decides to produce some better music.

Pearl Jam – Black Lyrics 13 years ago
Wow a good point with the star/sun comment! But maybe calling her a "star" the second time around insinuates that she cannot possibly mean as much to the "somebody else" as she meant to Vedder/the voice of the song.

Anyone else ever notice that Vedder skrews up the unplugged lyrics?

Creed – Say I Lyrics 13 years ago
Nuclear Apokalypse? Global Warming? The Law of One? Are you people serious?! I know that many ignorant souls out there want to cling to the silly notion that meaning is open to any interpretaion you can pull out of your butt but come on, what ever happened to intelligent educated thought?

Allow yourself to imagine that the song lyrics are a portrait of the human condition describing our inner selves as lost, confused, and tragically alone separated from God. The lyrics clearly subscribe to a notion that mankind has a creator whose absense or distance leaves us empty inside. Understanding that Creed adheres to the Christian worldview, this does mean to say that we are abandoned by God but rather as sin entered the world of humans (yes for which we are to blame) our intimacy with God was compromised and we are now removed from his direct presence.

The bit about "being led into the desert for your strength with surely fade" brings to mind biblical topics of trial, temptation, distraction, and isolation (think of the Hebrew Exodus from Egypt or the temptation of Christ) These are places in life where people find personal hardship as their integrity is strained and put to the test.

The phrase "We'll surely melt in the rain", in addition to keeping the human clay metaphor intact, acknowledges that in our current condition of advanced moral corruption and seemingly hopeless separation from the creator, we are doomed to face destruction on our own.

Yes, I admit that I am not the be-all-end-all authority on the meaning of the song but I think mine interpretation is at least better than "Global Warming"

Creed – Faceless Man Lyrics 13 years ago
@chosen1forlife

I agree with your theology but must disagree with your interpretation. The face in the water and the faceless man are two separate enties (by definition in fact... how can a face be faceless) Yes, the face in the water certainly refers to Jesus but the faceless man most reasonably refers to death. Very powerful song indeed. I suppose you could argue that the faceless man represents the Flesh or Satan but that is a bit counter-intuitive. Either way, this is a song of triumph rather than one of defeat as you suggest. I don't think you need be worried about Scott sitting on the fence waiting for Christ to interact with him one more time. He has made the decision to stand with the "face in the water" against "the faceless man".

@counting91bluecars

Right on. This interpretation makes the most reasonable sense. For centuries at least, the faceless man has been a personification of death... see Grim Reaper / Third Spirit in A Christmas Carol / Ringwraiths etc.

@songmeaner09

"Humble and willing to fight" refers to the face in the water (Jesus) absolutely but this is not the faceless man. Why would anyone (Christian or not) say "Lord I stand against Jesus"? chosen1forlife means well but don't encourage him haha

This interpretation is obvious to me but seems to be in the minority on these threads. I would be concerned if not for the fact that there are also way too many posters who want to remove Jesus from the interpretation altogether... which is an embrace of pure ignorance.

Scott: "Next time I see this face--"
Chosen1forlife: "--Oh you mean the faceless face that you saw but can't see?"
Scott: "Um... no?... Wait what?"
