Les cleverly twists the Biblical saying, "Eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth" into a more vengeful ideology. Even if you just knock out one of my teeth, I'm still taking one of your eyes, which by the way you could easily do with a BB gun... Pretty badass song in general. I wonder if there's a connection between the three verses. Was Les that little boy with a Crossman, wandering all around town looking for something to shoot at? |

| Beck – Loser Lyrics

I thought this song made a lot of sense.
"In the time of chimpanzees, I was a monkey."
Beck does his own thing, even if you trace the roots of his evolution.
"Butane in my veins, so I'm out to cut the junkie..."
While junkies have drugs in their veins and attack normal citizens in a drug-induced rage, Beck's a crazy mofo who shoots up butane, so he preys on the junkies. He's like a super-fucked-up Batman.
"Got a couple of couches, sleep on the love seat."
Even with an excessive amount of furniture, Beck is still willing to sacrifice comfort for style. Love seats are the shiznit.
"Forces of evil in a Bozo nightmare..."
I'm pretty sure most of this verse is about the evils of politics and the media. The scary-assed shit you'd see during the day in the 90's, made for kids of all people. Brain-washing undertones of advertising and hypnotic suggestion, along with the destruction of most all culture through the means of controlling and marketing the art and music we're exposed to.
"Trade the cash for the beef for the body for the hate..."
Referring to the endless cycle in which we sacrifice our time for money in order to provide ourselves with food and necessities, only to find that we've lost our youth, left with nothing but regret and hatred for the system.
Oh yeah, and lots of LSD. |

| Nine Inch Nails – Copy of A Lyrics

"I am just an echo of an echo of an echo listening to someone's cry for help"
I think this refers to the perpetual state of existing in a series of moments after we were born, reflecting back on ourselves through our memories.
We are simply copies of our past selves, which in turn are reassembled copies of our parents, their parents, and so on. |

I think that is true and false at the same time. I think he is defending the words and beliefs of those religious figures and also pointing out that they are a large reason why we're fighting. Neither of them would want violence to be used to resolve a conflict, but those in power can manipulate the faiths of the masses to satisfy their ulterior motives. Christ and Muhammad were both opposed to greed and power, but the mass religions that were founded on their words have been exploited for centuries for the pursuits of imperialism by the those who govern the people. |

Cocaine is not amphetamine, and tweekers don't refer to coke users, but I do agree that it could be about any amphetamine, not just methamphetamine. Coke however, is not one of them. |

Tentacles expanding in his mind. Nerves perhaps? Thoughts connecting abstractly as the tentacle-like nerve endings of his brain cells are getting kissed by the mutilated lips of psychedelic chemicals. Open to much interpretation as good art should be. |

Isn't Too Many Puppies about how the masses are trained to be whatever the government wants them to be, ranging from soldiers to workers to anything obedient? I didn't think it was meaningless... |

I'd swear it's about drugs up until the chorus, then I'm conflicted. It seems like the high of whatever he's feeling is familiar in some way, almost as if a piece of him were asleep and was finally waking up. Maybe he's saying good bye to who he used to be, or he's saying good bye to the people that can't come with him on his spiritual journey. That's what I just got from it. |

I think he's referring to the Sgt. Rock comic character. Sgt. Rock probably embodied alot of what young boys at the time were supposed to think was masculine and attractive to the opposite sex. |

I don't think this song is intended to be humorous in anyway. They're making a point about how religious fanatics tend to say that Jesus has a purpose and plan for everything that happens, but how do you explain that to a small child dying of a serious illness? Sweet song by the way. |
