In the first verse he is the captian of his distiny and needs to be free of all that holds him back. Then he pledges to live a life that is a forfilling life even if it means going to all the points of the earth, every shore. In the second verse he realizes the dreams he and his friends have or had, and how they for whatever reason did not come true entirely, for some memories are happy some sad. Despite our short comings we will try and and carry on any way to live a life that has meaning. In the third verse he is finally giving up the journey for that life he and his friends dreamed of having and now in dying moving on to the heavens above were your purpose will be forfilled. hence come sail away with me. In the forth verse he realizes that the angels are not just an image but actually do exist and they have come to save his soul. The other option its one hell of a drug trip that he was on just before he wrote it. |

| "I'm Alive" was writtern by Jackson Browne after his wife committed suicide. It was not a break up in the traditional since. "Those dreams are dead.." died with her. He needs to go some place were friends and family will not be constant reminders of her. He was very upset by this unfortunate event but what came of it was truly a great song called "I'm alive". The opening verse he expresses he wished had know how unhappy she was for he would have done something to keep her from taking her life.
