To me, this song screams suicide. “I know you said you’ll miss me” He has contemplated the idea of taking his life with someone he loves. He assures that even though she will be hurt that he is gone, she will get better in time: “time is like a wave, that washes the pain away”. It shows throughout the song that he is depressed no matter what happens to him. Even though positive things happen to him like feeling love again or drifting to sleep when he’s tired, he still describes them as “made things so much worse today”. “All I think is getting out of here” — Expressing his desire to commit suicide. “And I’ll never be good enough for you or for me" From this, I get that he is never satisfied with what he’s got, always with infinite wants so that it only ever leads to disappointment. “Good enough for you” also suggests that he cannot get over an unrequited love with someone. “I’ve buried my pride, I’ve buried my key.” When someone commits suicide, it tends to be viewed as an act of selfishness and pride. When someone commits suicide, they take all their hidden secrets with them — he buries the key to his secrets. |
