I've been listening to the song for a few years frequently but I just now found another meaning in it. I think its about a person who has done a lot of bad things and they want to go into the military ("room for one more son"). They've "got nowhere else to run" and they're lamenting about all of those things that they've done. They might not be a soldier, but they can be because they have soul and that's part of what it takes. |

I fell in love with this song while at work. It was one of those songs that plays over and over, I typically hear it twice a shift (depends on the length obviously). I think miriam22 has hit the head on the nail, but at the same time I like to relate songs to my life. My boyfriend of two and a half years is leaving for the Army in May and when we spend time together and he goes home, I say to him (in my head) "I wish you would stay long". Since he told me last summer that he wanted to go into the service, I have mentally fought to be okay with it. Well, it can be a "sweet ride" if we make it so. And I really love at the end when Jaye says "I don't know what the future holds, but I'm taking you with me." In my heart, its saying, I'm not sure where we're going, but we'll be together either way. |
