| Billy Corgan is christian, but he's of his own kind. Because rather than directing his focus on being that kind of person, simple-mindedly and neglecting the horrid aspects of life, his focus is on the struggle of being that kind of person on a gruesome world, right beside humanity that will treat him like a leaper as the effect. In several of his songs, (as I take from my interpretation) i.e - The Beginning is the End is the Beginning, Billy expresses how he wants to end humanity, leaving him alone with God to look for him. That's far deeper. It's not taken from a... religious standpoint, but more from a theology and philosophical standpoint of religion with the trinity in it. There's a difference. | |

I may not agree with what is written, but still, it is emotionally gripping how Billy Corgan expresses his views, as always. Like I've done previously with The Beginning is the End is the Beginning, I will attempt to explain the meaning of this one as well. So here we go, line by line (minus repeated lines): -------------------- The world is a vampire, sent to drain Secret destroyers, hold you up to the flames -------------------- ^ The world continues to drain away your effort of just being a good person, and yet, even through struggle, you still feel God's punishing you for your natural sins which are sometimes uncontrollable. -------------------- And what do I get, for my pain? Betrayed desires, and a piece of the game -------------------- ^ Billy Corgan here, expresses how even after the pain of trying to avoid his crimes, there seems to be no award, leaving him in a boring world, which he refers to as a "game". -------------------- Even though I know -- I suppose I'll show All my cool and cold-like old job -------------------- ^ Even though I know I'll be punished, I'll continue to sin with my cold heart. -------------------- Despite all my rage, I am still just a rat in a cage Then someone will say what is lost can never be saved -------------------- ^ Despite all my protesting against the establishment of good, there is no freedom for me. Sin captivates me. I am trapped, and there's no escape from it; no returning to something of morality. -------------------- Now I'm naked, nothing but an animal But can you fake it, for just one more show -------------------- ^ I am not in sync with anything of moral value, but I suppose I'll fake it, and hope that someone will so help me. -------------------- And what do you want, I want to change And what have you got When you feel the same -------------------- ^ This line contemplates with the previous. It is expressed how even though he's faking being of moral value with actions, he still feels immoral on the inside - his soul. He just feels the same immoral person despite his moral actions - what's the point of that? -------------------- Tell me I'm the only one Tell me there's no other one Jesus was an only son Tell me I'm the chosen one Jesus was an only son for you And I still believe that I cannot be saved -------------------- ^ Someone please tell me I'll be saved, please tell me I'm the only one that will be saved, because I'm so different from the rest of them. But I am reminded again, that Jesus was God's only son, leaving me out in the dust. I cannot be saved, and I know it. I suppose I have no value to this world - from both immoral and moral viewpoints. |

Firstly, I want to say that the song is not suitable for neither Batman and Robin nor Watchmen plot-lines. My view of the song is quite different from the rest, but all verses are coherent, and to me it seems to make perfect sense. The lyrics hit into this song down just so perfectly effective, and caused me to evolve my own views on the world. In short, the song tells a story of a person who wants to end humanity so that god can pay attention to him alone, watching the beautiful world now created anew. I don't agree with all that is written, but still, the philosophy is rather gripping. And that's why I just now created an account, to share my views. Here, now I'll start sentence by sentence (minus repeated verses): -------------------- Send a heartbeat to The void that cries through you -------------------- ^ I only will pay attention to the empty things in life, because every where else society exists, in which I'll be condemned by. -------------------- Relive the pictures that have come to pass For now we stand alone -------------------- ^ The beginning of the world was beautiful. There was only one man, and a God. Now I will relive it by ending humanity. -------------------- The world is lost and blown And we are flesh and blood disintegrate With no more to hate -------------------- ^ Humanity is dead. "We", as in the people besides me, are eliminated on our pathway, so now, what have we to hate? Your world is reclaimed. -------------------- Is it bright where you are Have the people changed Does it make you happy you're so strange -------------------- ^ God, you're heaven is the brightest place, and the people you made have changed. They've become indulgent of sin, and they can longer be a part of you, and that's exactly why they hate you. -------------------- And in your darkest hour I hold secrets flame We can watch the world devoured in it's pain -------------------- ^ When all the people are completely indulged in their worldly I will keep a secret that they will soon meet their doom. Their people will end up breaking down their kingdom. Hatred is undone, because their gone. -------------------- And I am a master of a nothing place Of recoil and grace -------------------- ^ Now since there's nothing left in the world, I am the ruler over a place of nothingness.
