I agree with the whole heaven and earth and hell thing. In the beginning they're talking about being a believer in the touch situations 'being covered in dirt from the floor I'm seeing straight'. Then the main melody sounds like someone's died and the singer is struggling to believe in heaven 'who am I to fool now if you're gone, you're gone'. They're saying that they're fooling themselves believing in God. And because they've lost faith they go to hell 'if i am found below the ground', then they'll be searching and desperate. It fits in all the lines. 'Prepared people' meaning people who believe and are ready to die. Then the whole feel of the song changes for the part that might be talking about Jesus. I hadn't even considered christanity was the song until you mentioned it. |

So, I've listened to this song on repeat for like a month and this is what i take from it. (I'm sorry it's so long) "who wants to know all that is gold is rusting" ~'To me, this is just says that no one wants to see the things or people they once viewed as strong and unchangable looking weak or defeated. Especially since the rest of the song has a tone of fear and aprehension, the singer is saying that strength is especially needed at the moment.' "no one will know seasons cease to change and.. how far we've gone how far we're going" ~' This whole part alludes to a place of darkness and not knowing 'no one will know seasons cease to change'. The singer is saying that metaphorically. Literally, when you can't see the seasons change, you're trapped indoors and can't see the real world. 'How far we've gone or are going' shows this darkness that they don't know where they're at or where they're headed.' "so here and the now and the love for the sound of the moments that keep us moving" ~'So the singer is focusing on the present and just moving forward however they can. Whatever their motivation is, they're urging themselves or others to just concentrate on that motivation and press forward through the fear.' "waves crash along the battered, lonely lighthouse" ~'Lighthouses guide people, and since this one is battered and lonely, it's probably been abandoned. The singer is again referencing to the lack of guidance on this journey. The waves are tides of life, like the daily troubles that change our plans and directions as we sail through life.' "tomorrow she's gone and if not, someday somehow" ~'He's foreshadowing death of someone he loves or thinks about.' "are these hands a waste" ~'This feels like the most emotional line in the song. The singer feels helpless. There's nothing he can do to stop them from dying, possibly they're sick or in battle and danger or something.' "well this side of mortality is scaring me to death" ~'He realizes his own mortality as well as worries about theirs. "This side of mortality"- the side where life ends and leaves the living broken in the wake of the death. Also how we only get one life and there really isn't all that much we can do with it unless we're brilliant. Many of us are destined to die unfullfilled in the eyes of history and time.' "don't think about it at all just keep your head low" ~'You can't go through life just fearing death and loss. Just keep your head down and avoid bad thoughts to reach that goal that you're moving in the darkness for.' "soldier on, soldier on" ~'I think this line is actually very easy. Soldier on is just saying 'be strong', 'fight your war', 'protect your comrades', 'kill the enemy', all the things soldiers bravely do, but apply it to your own life and strifes. "keep your heart close to the ground" ~'Two meanings again, literally, a Soldier needs to keep their heart close to the ground when they're crawling to avoid gunfire. Metaphorically, this probably means, stay grounded. Don't give your heart away too easily because it only leads to hurt and loss.' "yeah, will you take me tonight" ~'This is the tricky line. I'm sure it means that the singer has gained their confidence. The tempo picks up and there's a crescendo. He feels ready to face whatever's coming. This could be two things. He's ready to let that girl he spoke of earlier into his heart, or he's ready to accept death and the fact that it will come someday.' So there. Very deep song, very long interpretation. |
