I was a huge Elton John fan in the seventies and have always loved this song. I think it's just straight story telling from Bernie. I also love the musical arrangement which helps the song flow nicely through the different passages. The song is so haunting I can't just listen to it once and sometimes listen to it four or five times straight!
Absolutely superb, storytelling at it's best. It has stood the test of time and is probably my favourite EJ song (along with Indian Sunset) although I have never cared that much for the rest of the album which, after Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, was a huge disappointment. |

I was a huge Elton John fan in the seventies and have always loved this song. I think it's just straight story telling from Bernie; I don't read anything into it other than the mistraetment of native american indians from their perspective. I love the musical arrangement which helps the song flow nicely through the different passages. I take only what is mine... Now there seems no reason why... every verse in my opinion (and to borrow a phrase)is sheer bloody poetry.
Absolutely superb, storytelling at it's best. It has stood the test of time and is probably my favourite EJ song after Ticking. |

A hauntingly beautiful ending to an impressive album (although as a teenager in the early seventies I didn't much care for Razor Face, Holiday Inn or All the Nasties). I'm surprised that this song hasn't attracted more comments. My interpretation is that he's just signing off at the end of the album, but then I'm not great at interpreting songs so I may have mmissed the point completely! |

What, yet another song about Elton's sexuality, can't you people think of anything else to write? For every ten people on here claiming Elton's writing about his homosexuality there's another ten reminding you that Bernie wrote the lyrics! Do you know so little about Elton John or do you really not care and are content to write any old crap? By the way, did I mention that BERNIE WROTE THE LYRICS? |
