Sheer, are you crazy? I mean seriously? It's possible to be a moral sexual animal? Please tell me you didn't just say that. It's not. Sex is something that should be feared? It brings with it teen pregnantsy which ruins young peoples lives up every day. It also comes with the danger of catching diseases. The words moral and sexual don't belong in the same sentence. The implimentation of Christians is rotten? I'd say the parade of partner swapping is whats rotten. You know, if your gay ur gay, and thats all cool. But if your going to sit there and say crap like that then here we go. The only problem I see with the gay community is that love doesn't exsist. That God that sent his son to die for your sins did that to show you how much he loves you. LOVES YOU. If you wanna be gay cool, just learn how to actually love each other and find the one you LOVE and stop all this jumping around from one to an other. If you only understand how much God loves you. Even with all your stupid stuff you wrote and probably do, he STILL loves you and will be there for you. Why, I dont understand but, its not for me to understand. Thats yours and his business. But lay off the christians. They don't hate you. The hate what you do. Is it right? No. But they are human, JUST LIKE YOU! |

The only objection I have to your post is this. If Jesse is infact not religious, I don't understand why he would refer to so much that only the bible speaks of. If indeed he isn't, he sure has done his homework or perhaps maybe read up a little on it. The song indeed is about lonliness. And no its not totally about religion as you said. And no your point might not all make sense but dang it, thats what makes this fun. Other thoughts and feelings about songs. Much love |

just now I think the songs a little deeper than most think. Truthfully, I feel like this boys all over the place on this one. The first verse leads me to believe that his wife passed, he feels alone, and is worried about where she ended up (heaven or hell). He also wonders if he will be with her again one day. Wonders what will happen to him when his time comes. The part about his blight being to slight to hold back all his dark is easier understood like this. My good isn't good enough to hold down all my evil. This ship went down in sight of land refers back to the original tragedy(wife dying). Im not real clear on what Thomas asking to see his hands is all about. Well, thanks to the bible we all know he will come like a thief in the night. He seems to think he will still have time to sharpen up on his lying skills according to the line,"But Ive had sometime, O Lord, to hone my lying technique". The next part is the tricky one. This is why its dangerous to share the total truth about your own personal relationship with the Lord. He seems to think God trusts him and he shouldn't. He's scared he would betray him if the Lord were to trust him. Then he goes on to say that he wants to work out a sign with God so he will know when it is God for sure that has come to take him home. If he has this sign, he'll "know its over and he wont even try"(try to fight it). Pretty much the rest of the song, "I know you're coming for the people like me, We all have wood and nails and we turn out hate facories", is just him saying he knows we all are about the same. We all have free will and we all turn out sins with it. Just my understanding of the song. Its a wonderfully executed message. Loved it. |

Another thought. Based on the order of the lyrics, I'd be willing to say she was the one that got the so called friend (who I believe was her boyfriend)addicted. "It wasnt my ittention to mislead you, it never should have been this way. What can I say, its true I DID extend the invitation." As far as the video goes, it also appears that the after he addiction kicked in real good, she wanted him to stop but he couldn't. |

Honestly it could go either way. Both feet fit the boot. What messes with me about this song is the line in the song, "only emptiness remains, it replaces all the pain". Its amazing. She'd rather feel empty than hurt. Id rather feel pain than nothing at all. Pain along with many other emotions and feelings serve a purpose. If nothing else, they let you know your not dead yet. So this to me would lean more on the drug addiction theory. Only a person with severe problems, such as drug problems, would ever think this way. And I feel like if it was an addiction problem, based on the lyrics, I'd say it was an alcohol problem more than a drug problem. Someone commented saying that Martika herself gave an interview stating this song was about drugs. Well, in the 80's artist were notorious for lying and claiming songs to be about things that they really weren't. They would start out one way and somewhere along the way the meaning would change. Just a thought |
