Wow, big chunks of time between comments on this amazing song! Blood? How much more personally intimate does it get than that? Family resonates in me when I hear this, memories of being a kid running around with my older brother and taking it all in without expectations...other than fun and a sense of peace on a beautiful day. We fall down, get a busted lip...we remember that. Over time it becomes a good thing, but we cried when it happened. Yet, we DO remember those things that actually awakened us, even if for only a few moments. The realization of our individuality and unlikeliness we will ever be totally understood...we are so puzzled by our own behavior, at times. We still wish for the connection, though. Being outdoors very much an energy of this song. This sounds like it covers the span of several years. The South. My visits down there were often simple adventures in a car or motorcycle. I swear you could drive around with a bottle of booze in your hand, get pulled over and be told to drive carefully, now willya? Just my recalls. Firewater, it's what SEEMS allowable to experience more liberally in the South than other parts of the country. No casting of aspersions at all on folks who live down there as I say this...just my recalls, is all! Just because the fine folks at songmeanings.net interpret the lyric as "...salt freedom", doesn't mean it wasn't 'meant as "...soul freedom". A gorgeous piece that brings up so many fuzzed-out remembrances. I've played it over and over 8 or 9 times now and the tears just stream down my face. Beautiful. |
