Elliott's all like, "What do you want with me, you ghost of a smile? Why do you keep showing up on everyone else's faces? Why do want to be with me, I"m a disaster. Why can't you just go back to your own body (master) and tame that person and leave me alone." And then something about coals and other things about blood becoming resigned. I know I'm completely wrong, but I love this song anyway. It so ridiculously sad and heart breaking and there is more meaning in the way it is played and sung than in the lyrics for me. With or without drums, it is amazing, and I can never get sick of it. |

To me it sounds like 'mysterious with everyone'. I have no idea what's saying before that, but I don't think it's 'european son.' I just listened to it 10 times in a row... it is just uninterpretable. |

I see this story as more sublime. Elliott is walking around in Alphabet City trying to find the correct letters and pronunciation of her name before he throws it up for her to shoot it down. But she feels right at home because her name is Constantina, and that is the sort of name you would feel at home with if you lived in Alphabet City, because it sure uses a lot of letters. But its haunted by the ghosts of other letters, and maybe the names of other women. But Northwest Portland is haunted anyway, and the streets are in alphabetical order, and he did live in Portland, so it makes a very nice backdrop for a really cool story. |
