"The Days Between?" I was in the hall of the Oakland Colliseum, dancing in front of the speakers the dead always set up for dancers and parents, and those who wanted a time out. This song came on, and Jerry's voice, was poignant. I was spellbound. Perhaps this is simplistic but I've always thought Hunter's lyrics were chonicling their long strange trip, a trip that was or became ours. |

I read several "meanings" below, especially noting the literal and historical analysis of several paragraphs. Perhaps Bob didn't even realize the deeper and complex meanings of this song when he lyricized it. I agree with the previous comment. Perhaps that is why so many people were attracted and attached to this penetrating song. I've heard, sung and read the lyics multiple times over the years. It always speaks to me, diffently each time, and now my granddaughter is listening. It seems to be speaking to her. I don't know what it is saying. I do know he has "spoken" to and "of" me numerous times over 40 years. Bob still does. |
