the lyrics having some gaps (question marks) inbetween, makes me assume that those are not directly taken from the band's album or website... or anything official and original? Because what I'm hearing is them singing: "(I) believe you have FORGOTTEN your precious mother tongue What do you think YOUR mother WOULD say OF what you've done And IF YOU can't remember the place YOU CALL HOME OR HAVING TROUBLE PLACING who's calling on the phone" which makes more sense to me... |

| Tori Amos – Cruel Lyrics | 13 years ago |

well, considering that the whole "From the choirgirl Hotel" album is about Tori dealing with her miscarriage, this song is no exception. "Why can't my bal-la-loon stay up in a perfectly windy sky?" = why can't i keep my baby alive? She's obviously being very devistated, but also angry with herself and feeling guilty. For some reason I get the feeling she might not had been very careful during her pregnancy. She even calls herself Playboy Mommy in the same named song... That could explain when she says: "I can be cruel, I don't know why" right after "No cigarettes only peeled Havana's for you." - assuming that cigars ( Havanas) being more harmful than cigarettes. All in all a very powerful song! |
