I think this song is about post break-up relationships.
For some reason the relationship ended, and when you looked back at it you figured out why it didn't last long. However, what you did next is not trying to save it or get her back, but just wishing to cherish the good old memories and live on it. But it makes you feel sad when you find out how quickly the memories fade away as the time slipping by. You once thought you could have been the one she spent the lifetime with, but since it didn't work out, you choose not to blame her or anyone. You are just trying to tell her not to walk too fast in the next relationship and wish her all the best.
Because how you feel when you're with someone is much more important than the memories it created. Memories fade but moments remain...

CLASH : What inspired the lyrics of "Never Learnt to share"? Was it a lament at being an only child?
JAMES BLAKE : (Smiles)Possibly,yeah. I mean I don't think I thought of that at the time,but maybe you could extrapolate that
from it. It's sort of an in-joke with myself,because I don't have a brother or sister;I don't blame them
because they don't exist.
