My interpretation is much different then all of yours. "theres a lady who sure that all that glitters is gold and she buying a stairway to heaven"- This line is not referring to bad thing, such as drugs or money, because it claims she is buying a stairway to Heaven-Only good people go to heaven. I believe it is saying that all that glitters is gold such as the glitter in the eye of a new mother looking at her beautiful baby. Or the glitter in the eye of a schoolboy with a crush. "There's a sign on the wall but she wants to be sure 'Cause you know sometimes words have two meanings." "In a tree by the brook, there's a songbird who sings, Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven." She reads the signs but doesn't want to interpret anything wrong about anything-meanwhile the songbird is singing. -Which is something many of us are too busy in thought of ourselves, to hear.-similiar to the old saying 'stop and smell the roses'-but this is stay, quiet and hear the songbird for a moment. The song goes on and on and I will just add that she is an angel trying to make everything in our lives gold and if we just stop and hear the call, we too can see life in this beautiful way. But we have to stop, "to and be rock and not to roll."
