Would we ever have heard the song if he hadn't benefitted from capitalism? I think the quick answer is no. He's inciting revolution; but obviously he is able to due this and be heard because he has benefitted from capitalism |

It is more akin to "1984" where the "Proles" (like Proleteriat as in working class in Marxist school of thought) where the Proleteriat literally are doped with booze and gambling etc; and thus they never challenge the autocratic, all knowing government. That book was written in the '50's; Orwell is a fucking genius and Marx had basically said this in the late 18th Century e.g. "religion is the opiate of the masses" or whatever; before you all wank over Lennon having the vision to see this. Class song though |

bollocks he's criticising "democracy" and saying if you are not born with the status and cash, everything is set against you for you to fail. Basically prejudgements about a group in society; bit like Scouse jokes about them robbing shit e.g. "what do you call a trustworthy scouser?" "armless" |

you are a fucking hero mate just got to believe thats what Lennon was saying; despite the very dynamics of the system inciting you to fail, fuck it lets av it and prove the bastards wrong. Anyway, just be happy bud, don't think like that because it's not true; bastards at the top of the societal hierarchy who stop at nothing to get money are the real scum. |
