Alison Krauss – Take Me For Longing Lyrics 14 years ago
I disagree that it's a foregone conclusion that there's no match. I take a much more "just fish or cut bait" tone from it. And that she's saying don't do it because it's the logical or "right" choice (e.g., the singer is faithful and kind), but rather, because you long for me.

The first verse also seems to imply that her audience has had some bad experiences in the past, which appear to be where the stumbling block to this love is coming from (Time and hard lessons are one kind of wisdom. Try to forget them or love me no more).

It's the second verse that I'm a little more hazy on. It seems like she's saying, "I don't really care if you trust me or want to be committed to me, I just want you to love me, and I'm willing to put myself on the line for that." To me, that just doesn't seem to make a whole lot of sense- I guess mostly because with me trust and love are pretty intertwined. I'm guessing I'm also significantly less likely to put myself on the line for someone I have to say "just fish or cut bait" to than the protagonist of the song. :)

Any other thoughts on that second verse?
