NeedToBreathe is classified in the Christian genre and many of their lyrics have to do with Christianity. When this song is looked at from that perspective, it makes perfect sense. Rather than looking at this song as if it is being sung to a woman or a lover, look at it as if he is singing it to God. There is sin in life and pain as a result. The "Grace" that is being spoken of in this song is being personified with "she", but it is the grace that has been granted to sinners through the price that Christ paid on the cross. And, though our mistakes have been paid for "Memories, they can't be erased..." "Oh I know this song won't do/ Enough to prove my love to you/ In my heart you'll always know/ There is a place only love can go/ There is a place only you can go..." I believe what the artist is saying here is that there is nothing that he can do to prove his love to God, but there is a place in his heart reserved only for God (1 John 4:16 "And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. GOD IS LOVE. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.") This is just my opinion coming from a Christian background. |
