| alt-J – Something Good Lyrics | 12 years ago |

The whole album is money. Specifically, I think the song is about love, but it really can be about any instance where a person tries to deal with loss, by trying to find a replacement, rather than simply eliminate or manage the degree of need. The song begins where it leaves off. The two lines are almost identical, signifying the strategy and process of trying to forget a previous lover by quickly taking on and running towards another, when it is love which seemingly injured or almost injured him in the first place. Dude is probably a sex addict as evidenced by the irrational nature of the song. But, then again, maybe he simply likes knowing lots of people. Maybe he has abandonment issues and is addicted to connecting with people and yearns for a sense of connection. This represents the gamble and the sport in it all: the "bloodsport". They get high(sex/connect/submit), then get down(withdrawal for that feeling), the "crowd"(his conscious) screams(for more), and he move is forced to move on(don't know why we do this, we just do). |

| Muse – Stockholm Syndrome Lyrics | 12 years ago |

It's about a lover who won't leave even though she feels abused by the relationship. The term "stockholm syndrome" refers to the process by which a victim begins to identify with, and feel empathy and sympathy for, their abuser. In the case of this song, she can't quit coming back to him, even though she probably wants more of a relationship and he does not. So, she inevitably feels "led on", under appreciated, and eventually abused by him, all the while it's her choice every time to come back and put up with the perceived "abuse". She is in love with the person who is causing her pain. He is telling her he will not commit at this time, and she can leave whenever she wants, but she keeps coming back. The tragedy in all of this is the fact that he probably does love her on some level, but simultaneously can't commit and say "no" to her. He tells her to leave because he doesn't enjoy hurting her and he knows she deserves better, but she [just] [will] [not] go... So, ultimately, they are both hurting very much as indicated by the line "[we] will die." He hurts because he loves her and wants her to move on to something real, something that is more in line what she actually wants. |

Seems, to me, as if the song is about finding someone and then the process of them leaving and how everything they said comes to linger(in the speakers head), even though they are not physically there anymore. First verse is about coming to know them, love them and ultimately why it will be so difficult to let them go(they're great). "Fire works at the water" "You were holy" "Styrofoam cup held between your teeth "Telling me how you are going to outlive your body." Second verse is things getting even more intense and heavy. His intensity is causing him to grip too tight, and it's only pushing her away. The speaker who is "falling", is reading to much into everything and insecurity and doubt is talking him out of living normally. His confidence is ruined and he is struggling to do anything at all. "Gathering your storm I talk to fill the space You know where so and so was, when they were our age? Every night you seem To talk me out of everything Careful what you say next Don't waste a single drop What you said I wrote it down It won't say, it won't speak the same" The final verse is him recollecting on her now being gone and how he blames her, but knows neither party is really guilty of anything. He fell too hard and should have known better to, not only fall, but to think gripping was the answer to falling and losing love. Now all he is left with is the memories of all their conversation and all the mistakes he perceives he had made. Which is unfortunate because she may have loved him, but just couldn't stay for some reason which has nothing to do with him personally. He is saying he should have known better than to take it personally. "Careful what you say next Don't waste a single drop What you said I wrote it down It won't say, it won't speak the same After everything Left in the sun, shivering What you said I wrote it down It won't say, it won't speak the same Maybe I know better than To read more than what's there" |

| Tool – Stinkfist Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| It's about dependency and how our tolerance grows for whatever we depend on. Which turns us into the whores that we are. Dependency on drugs, sex, technology, govt', whatever. It's about being dependent on anything but yourself and the loss of self which comes from it. At first we only need it a little. But the tolerance will inevitably grow. Little by little. Until we've lost control. | |
