The song is basically about seeing a looming catastrophe (economic crisis, war, social upheaval or whatever) and running like hell to a simpler life in some rural backwater where you can hunker down and ride it out in safety. |

The story here is of an aging guy. He's was a stockbroker(ramblers wild gamblers)or other high pressure, high risk job) but now he has had enough of that life and despite all his friends saying he is totally insane he quits his job to pursue his dream career as a blues musician. He pictures what his new life will be, wake up when the sun goes down, know all the scene and clubs in town, meet women for one night stands. He will make this new life his "home sweet home". Of course he can't shake the feeling that he is being a looser, leaving his lucrative job to be a lounge lizard musician but he reasons that if winners in the world are recognized then he will try to be recognized as the biggest looser. |

My take is that the protagonist is an older guy, he knows he should know better but is involved with a younger woman(or women)he may have met somewhere while on vacation. Despite the fact that these women have other lives and relationships and that his friends have told him he is being foolish, that these women are just after his cash, etc he just can't resist because they make him feel young again for a little while. So he travels, parties, spends too much money but in the end it all just brings home the fact that these women don't care about him, he is past his prime and just being used. |
