The Strokes – Under Control Lyrics 14 years ago
One of my favorites from the strokes. Just about accepting something went wrong and move on, with no bitterness. Love the melody as well,; in the beginning, it strangely gives me this warm feeling, kinda the one you get when Christmas is around.Very warm-hearted song. :)

The Strokes – 12:51 Lyrics 14 years ago
This song is about more then just having sex for the first time. Sure, 12:51 is the time it happen, but in my opinion, there's more to the lyrics then just doing it.

It's about an older guy who is falling in love or has taken an interest in dating a younger girl. I'm guessing the girl is around 18, 19 years of age, but is still living with her parents ('Oh really, your folks are away now? Alright, let's go, you convinced me') while he is around early to mid-twenties tops. ('We could go and get 40's, Fuck goin to that party').

'12:51 is the time my voice
Found the words I sought...
Is it this stage I want?'

He's asking himself if he should do this, if he should pursue this relationship and take things further. He knows that if he has sex with her, they'll be entering a new stage in their relationship. Then he talks about how the world is 'shutting down on them' (parents not allowing it, friends against it, etc.) and that it's intense, sure; but they were/are confident in what they did and their relationship.

On the next lines, he's saying, 'hey I'm older, but I'm not going to control you or pressure you into anything'. Even though he's sightly older, he's reassuring her that he's not going to push anything on her, he'll let her make her own decisions and choices. The he tells her to take things slow on him, because he's new to the experience of dating someone a little younger (or dating someone he really likes) but he doesn't want her to 'warn him' because he wants to learn and make his own decisions as well on his own. (He doesn't want warning sings or worry about the relationship, he just want to enjoy it despite anything.)

At the end, it seems their relationship will work, but they know they are taking a risk on it. They are going to make the best of it no matter what happens and just have fun.

This is my opinion about the song, but on a lighter note: I LOVE the beat of the song! It's a shame it's only around 2 minutes with 30 seconds, wish it was longer! So catchy, probably one of my top 5 from the Strokes. :)

She & Him – Lingering Still Lyrics 14 years ago
I always felt like this was about a woman who felt a connection with a man she barley meant at job (or coffee shop, party, bar, - anywhere really) but is unsure if the man felt that connection too.

The first phases make me think this girl is no rush to start a relationship with this guy. She likes to learn along the way, even if going slow means making mistakes. Then, in the next few lines, she's preferring to expressing what she feels (I like to mean what I say), however, what she feels on the inside, doesn't ways come out right on the outside, leaving the other person in confusion as she mumbles things out of nerves. Ultimately, she'll start saying things that aren't true. (Because if I say it all again, again, again - It doesn't make it all true).

In the main chorus lines, I think it shifts points of views between how the other person (man) feels, then back to the girl's. The girl 'is a secret' he has, he might like her, but the 'world is like a science', meaning he can't express his feelings because the world is not ready for it yet (or won't agree with it). (Basically like science, it's confusing, and is usually missing bits of information. For example a scientist who loves his job but believes in God; that's his "secret".) By 'lingering', it simply means that even though their relationship is at a still, he still hangs around her, making her feel there's still hope for whatever is next.

Then, the 'It's all just news to me, Don't really care if it hurts' is talking about possibly things or rumors the girl hears about the guy - yet she's heard so much, it doesn't really hurt, she just wants to know more about him. This:'Because if I knock it I won't know it, Then I know that it will only get worse' Is talking about her curiosity about the 'news' she's heard about him. She knows that if she gets involved she might make things worse between them. Having this to her knowledge, she moves along and decides not to 'knock on his door'.

Then she talks about how he was when they first saw each other. He seemed genuine and real, and that's what caught her attention about him. But then, when she tried to approach him, to get to know him - he won't even 'shake her hand'. She wants to get to know the guy, but the guy seems to be standing still - 'Because he's never going to know me, If he doesn't want to just shake my hand'.

Then it goes back to the chorus lines where she's left wondering with hope and confusion. The world's like a science, and she's like a secret. This is my interpretation about the song, maybe about two completely different people (opposites) finding they might have more then common then what they thought ?

I love this song, btw. Overall, I view this as a happy song with a clam tone - hope. <3
