Well, the part about "the innocent can never last" fits the video because when the kid was at home with his girlfriend, he was innocent and enjoying his summer. But having to go into a war situation and see people dying ended his innocence. And "summer has come and past" fits because the parts where they're together seem to be summertime, I would guess the summer after high school graduation, and probably September was when he had to report for training. All the "here comes the rain again" parts are just about how we have to go through all kinds of crap to mature and for this kid, that's joining the military. |

Yeah, I noticed too that it sounds like "pull the trigger and the nightmare stops."
What I don't get about this song is that most of it seems to be a rejection song, so what's up with the "listen well, will you marry me" part? One last desperate plea before he realizes it's never gonna work? |

I always assumed this song was about the same Elisabeth mentioned in "Goodnight Elisabeth" but has anyone noticed that in this song, Adam spells her name Elizabeth and in "Goodnight" he spells it "Elisabeth." Why is that? |

I love this song, but I have a question about it...was the girl's name Austin or was Austin where she went? Because he says "P.S if this is Austin..." but it says in the beginning "He figured she'd gone back to Austin" |

I know this is probably not what the song is really about, but this has a very personal meaning for me. It reminds me of being picked on by peers in elementary and middle school, and looking back years later and realizing that you can attribute most of my current personality hangups to this verbal abuse years ago. It isn't the people who actually did the bullying who infuriate me so, it's the ones who stood by and laughed and ignored me instead of helping me when I really needed it. The whole "I just needed someone to talk to/ you were just too busy with yourself"...there were so many people who simply would not talk to me because they felt like by talking to me they'd become unpopular and a victim too...and even though I can see their feelings now, back then all I felt was rage toward them and the bullies that nobody cared that I was going through so much physical and psychological torment, that they found my pain amusing. |
