Radiohead – Separator Lyrics 4 years ago
I don't view this track as a song about reincarnation, death or heaven.

I personally view this as enlightenment, as being present in this moment and separating ourselves from our former state into other stages of our life.

The lines falling out of bed from a long vivid dream resonates. We live life in a dream, not fully aware but when we realize that we are living in a haze and not fully aware then we are free from all the weight we are carrying.

He describes it as a fish out of water, or a woman who blows her cover (in the eyes of the beholder) in the sense that women will cover their true selves with mascara, maybe to protect themselves because of shame placed on societal standards. But when relieved from those standards she can be her true self. It can feel shameful, it can make us feel like we're going to die out of our environment, or our safe refuge as in the case of a giant bird carrying us. But when we leave all those comforts and "separate" ourselves from it, it can lead to greater truths about ourselves and who we truly are or what our potential can be.

Sometimes those changes can affect our relationships with long time friends, relatives or lovers and it can be quite an attractive proposition to return to that comfort zone, or as they put it "slip over and get back under". We lose contact through those changes, we lose their number or we forget how it is to communicate with them. Changes can hurt in that sense.

But change can also be good and even if it seems like the end of the road, it's not. It's just part of the process because life does that. It recycles, transforms and forces us to adapt.

So when it seems like you're at the end of the road, be it cause of depression, or the death of someone, or any harsh reality that life brings to you, just realize that it's all part of the process and life will continue.

Every changing moment will feel like another dream that we're slipping through and into another cycle of transformation. And we have to learn to separate ourselves from every passing moment and trust the process. This is our awakening moment.

Iron & Wine – Lion's Mane Lyrics 13 years ago
I think when he refers to "the lions mane" he's simply saying that love is worth protecting like the lion's mane is used to protect it from when he fights against other animals and lions. i think that people's interpretation of a child works good here. So in other words, he'd protect his child the way that a lion would protect itself or its family from an attack.

But love to him, doesn't just stop at a child,he's speaking of love in general. Love for a significant other, or a relative, or a friend. But love as love for a child is about the most sacred that we can come to relate to... so just to think that a strength of a lion just to protect something so sacred as a child, meaning love, that is profound. So two symbolisms here as that of a baby and a lion combining... its almost as if he's describing Heaven here. I think what he's trying to say here is that love is about the most enlightened you would ever be when you feel it.

Atlas Sound – Criminals Lyrics 14 years ago
i think i appreciate this song more than before having read the lyrics. this song is great to say the least. the lyrics gave me chills reading them. i'm not sure though if i get the same idea of "temptations" and trying to overcome them. what i get from the song is that he's comparing himself to a criminal. he's no different... hence "criminals", so maybe he's including himself in the title.
but what did the criminal see that made him judge him when he walked into his room? maybe the room is a metaphor to his mind. maybe the criminal was terrified when he saw what was in his mind, so he asks "why do you live this way?" maybe the criminal tells him his near death experience and compares it to the writers own life, and his own existence and then says "at least i called into question why we take this route". and the writer simply says, "you think that i don't know?" or "you think i don't think the same things? you think that i don't call into question why i walk this route? well, you're wrong."

i dunno, so many things to explore... maybe the temptation you guys are referring to is that he's also comparing himself to the criminal in the sense that he wished he had something more... what it is, i dunno. this song sounds very personal and perhaps bradford cox is singing about his personal demons that it would only take him to explain it more thoroughly. great great song!
