| David Lynch – Good Day Today Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| I love how simple this is. There's an elegance found in the lack of complexity, which is not something I would expect from the man responsible for some of the most layered and complex films of the modern era. Truly haunting. | |
| The Cure – Plainsong Lyrics | 13 years ago |
|
I interpret this song very literally. To me, it is simply two characters, the narrator and his lover, having a conversation. I imagine it taking place in a rustic cabin in the middle of the woods, under a mystical purple light. Perhaps the lover had gotten out of bed to stare out at the world around them through a window, musing to him or herself about what they see, only to be startled by a response from the narrator. Just a thought... |

| Modest Mouse – Dashboard Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| As much as I love to interpret Brock's cryptic lyrics, I'm pretty sure I remember reading that he simply improvised these lyrics on the fly while he was rehearsing with Johnny Marr. I'm not sure they can be said to mean much more than they mean at face value. The lyrics seem to be based more on sound than metaphor. | |
| Blink-182 – All of This Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| This song is gorgeous. I am a huge blink-182 fan, but an ever bigger Cure fan. I absolutely adore Robert Smith. His voice really adds to the depth of this song. I almost think of it as a The Cure song, featuring blink-182, because it has such a post-punk feel to it. Beautiful. | |
| Cursive – The Lament of Pretty Baby Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| I think the song is definitely about rape. Pretty Baby goes out drinking the night before (A Red so Deep), and flirts with guys to get back at Sweetie's presumed infidelities. She gets raped by a man she meets at a bar. This song is her reacting to the aftermath. | |
| Kid Cudi – Day 'N' Nite [Original Explicit] Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| Haunting. | |
| The Magnetic Fields – I Don't Believe In The Sun Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| A great cut off of a great album. I think this track in particular is a great summation of Stephin's singing and songwriting. If I had one song to describe the band to someone, it would probably be this one. | |
| Belle & Sebastian – Judy and the Dream of Horses Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
Judy is a teenage girl suffering from depression and alienation (a unique theme for B & S, I know). Her only form of release is to recall a recurring theme about stealing a horse and riding off into the sunset. The dream clearly represents Judy's desire for freedom from her day to day life. The final lyrics, "If you're ever feeling blue Then write another song about your dream of horses Write a song about your dream of horses Call it Judy And The Dream Of Horses Call it Judy And The Dream Of Horses You dream of horses" always give me chills. |
