i dont think you're too far off from the meaning of this song. however, his addiction is to racing, although he gambles on the racing, his addiction is more to racing. this is evident by nearly the entire album Darkness on the Edge of Town; you've got songs like the Promised Land, Racing in the Street, and Streets of Fire which all deal with racing.
in regards to Sonny, I think it's just a term like buddy or son.
great job for your first time interpreting a song! |

This song is definitely about old friends, but in particular for Bruce; The E Street Band. Bruce's departure from the E Street Band in the late 80's led to the song being written. Before the album Greatest Hits was recorded in 1995, Bruce wrote Blood Brothers about being reunited with all of his friends that he hadn't worked with for a few years. It is very apparent when the lyrics are dissected and interpreted. |

I agree with pencilneckedgeek. In Springsteen's concert Breathless in Paris in 1985, he says that this song is about "leaving home and not being able to find your way back". It's about a Vietnam vet who came back, but realizes his life is not there anymore. He's still shaken by Vietnam like most vets. |
