| I feel like the lyrics are much too romantically reminiscent ("it felt so good waking up beside you"/"the way that you kiss") to necessarily be about "the friend zone" or unrequited love. I think it's about a break-up. Like, they were together and happy but she now wants to just be friends, but he's still in love with her ("And it's never going to be the same, again…") | |

While it has no effect on the meaning of the song, Jason said during a live Ustream performance that the reason he wrote this song was because he met a couple of girls, and they told him that there were no songs written about where they were from. He asked which state they were from, and they said, "New Hampshire", so he was inspired to write a song based in New Hampshire. Again, nothing to do with the lyrics, but that's why the setting is what it is. Probably my favorite song of all time. |
