It's kind of interesting to me how both this song and "Sleepless" use the same vocoder. In the background of this song and the next one on the album, "Complications", now and then you can hear a heartbeat monitor, which eventually flatlines. The lyrics in "Sleepless" also seem to suggest death.
Not that there necessarily is any meaning behind it. But it is interesting. |

Depends on how you look at it. It could also be a song about staying away from dangerous sexy girls, or even pornography. There's a fair number of lines; "I'm James Bond; live to die another day," "So I'm running, cause I've run out of time," "wired up to detonate," "she could lead to my demise,"...heck, it's weaved through the whole song.
I mean, that might not be the case at all, but I wouldn't be surprised if it is, knowing Adam. It's much more likely that the whole point of this song is about running away from all of that stuff before it does you in. |

I don't know how to react to this interpretation, because I completely agree with it, but at the same time it makes me so sad to think that we're tearing our own world apart. Not just the physical world, but also ourselves. How far we have fallen, we lost children of the world. It's a picture that is both sadly beautiful and horrifying in its utter truth, and there is little that can be done to stop it if the world continues as it is now. |

Maybe it's just me, but the last line "I've always wondered why We won't need feathers to fly" makes me think of Heaven. I think we'll be able to fly there, free from the limits of this faded place we call the physical world. There's a more substantial world, one that God will give us a new body for, and anything will be possible. No feathers necessary. :) |

It's not that they took it personally. It's that Satan hates us almost as much as he hates God, and will do ANYTHING to keep the truth from being spread. And sadly, he's been at least partly effective. There are many Christians who are terrified of sharing the Gospel, maybe because they don't think they can handle the disapproval they'll recieve, maybe for some other reason.
But Satan's gonna lose in the end. The least we can do is stop him from dragging everyone else down with him. And more than that - show others what an AMAZING life following Christ really is. I don't know how atheists get through the day, believing that they just cease to exist when they die. If only God would open their eyes. |

I'm amazed at how well the lyrics and background music capture the sense of falling through the air (or what I imagine it as; I have no plans to go jump out of a plane anytime soon). Adam Young is a genius. |

In a way, this song kinda strikes me as being about heading out into the unknown. The first part seems to be about childhood, and first finding your adventure.
"I'll be out of my mind" makes me think of stir-craziness, being stuck in one place, and "out of ideas" is fairly self-explanatory - running out of things to do.
"COLD hot air balloon" - Setting out into the unknown without the comforts of your normal life. "Leave your jacket behind", too, seems to mean leaving behind what you know.
"Touch the treetops over town" could just be a poetic touch. The "kiss the ground" line makes me think of setting back down in a brand new place, and just embracing the unknown.
And that's my take on this song. :) |
