This song is definitely about a father/daughter relationship, onsidering that Terry Callier gave up his musical career in the 80's for his daughter, when he gained custody of her. So, I presume the line "thinking about you baby...in my blues " refers to the time when he was touring with musicians such Gil Scott-Heron. And "I'd give all that I have just to, keep you near" is for him being ready to give up music to have the opportunity of bringing her up. And also, the line "you just don't believe that I'm sincere" reveals that probably his daughter doesn't believe him anymore, because he already left her once for the touring. And the "child" only confirms that it's definitely not about missing a lover. I love this song and the video is also great in it's own interpretation. |
