30 Seconds to Mars – Conquistador Lyrics 12 years ago
Many of the songs on this album seem to me like they reflect a song or multiple from This Is War. I think this one relates quite closely to Vox Populi (A Call to Arms). That was my favourite non-single on TIW and I think this is becoming my favourite song on LLF+D!

Darren Hayes – Waking the Monster Lyrics 12 years ago
FaustIX's comment made me think of Back to the Future. It's almost like a messed up prologue to the movie, where Marty gets frustrated at Doc's going to ground during the Delorean project and threatens him to allow him to be involved.

I'm clearly tired, thinking up this crazy stuff. But at the same time Darren is a massive Star Wars fan so I wouldn't put it past him. More likely it's just storytelling and imagination.

Darren Hayes – Neverland Lyrics 12 years ago
This song was great comfort to me when I was going through watching one of my best friends being abused and fearing for her safety at the hands of her mother's alcoholic boyfriend. My thoughts were surprisingly similar. Watching someone you care for or love crying every day because they couldn't be safe in their own home, and because they were helpless to do anything about it... I definitely considered smashing his face.

Darren Hayes – Casey Lyrics 12 years ago
I think this song does refer to Darren's life in a way. I believe his older sister's name was Tracey, hence the name Casey. Darren was the youngest child of an unstable family, as most people know, and when Tracey left home he would have been left alone with his parents who - as is revealed later in the album - have an unstable relationship which has caused him a lot of trauma. When she leaves, he seems to be begging her to take him with her, because he loves her and he wants to hang on to the stability and happiness he gets from her, as his closest loving relative he can rely on.

I suppose the song portrays a not uncommon situation when the only source of sanity or stability in your life has to leave you. Whether it's a sibling in an abusive or unstable family, or a friend, perhaps at the beginning of college years. I can definitely relate to this.

Shiny Toy Guns – Wait For Me Lyrics 13 years ago
This really is a truly beautiful piece of songwriting and music. And that incredible scream at the beginning sends a shiver down my spine.

To me this song portrays one of the most awful things in love - death - in a beautiful and almost happily-toned way. It depicts how couples may love each other so strongly, so fiercely, that they are willing to die for a chance to join their lover in some other world.

On a more analytical note, this could also be seen as depicting the delirium and denial of loss that comes with severe grief. How some people partially lose their mind when their lover is gone.

My great-grandparents were together for over 60 years and my widower great-grandfather survived only a few weeks after his wife's death. He didn't have to live with the pain for long, or maybe he lived for her. At the time I saw this is tragic but now I realise it is actually quite a beautiful way to end your lives together. This song portrays this perfectly.

You guys should check out the video for this song on youtube. Some of FFDP's videos are clearly linked to the song and this is one of them... I think it explains it quite well.

Linkin Park – The Catalyst Lyrics 13 years ago
This, my friends, is a demonstration of how some religious people refuse to acknowledge evidence for a point put in front of them, like how some still do not accept the theory of evolution. The references to Robert Oppenheimer and nuclear weapons and war on this album cannot be missed unless by someone who chooses to miss them or cannot see evidence because THEY THEMSELVES are indoctrinated and brainwashed by the tyranny that is fundamental religion. Religion can be a beautiful thing with great ideals and so much hope, don't get me wrong, but nobody should be forcing it on anyone else and it does need to advance with us into the future, not stay stuck in its age-old ways because of its age-old books.

Muse – Exogenesis: Symphony Part 1 (Overture) Lyrics 14 years ago
This. So much this. Human lust for money and power will bring us to our end before we can cross-pollinate and expand to other worlds. Just a few years ago we saw hope in Constellation that we would finally leave our planet and begin colonising, but then of course the wars happened (again) and the US defence budget swelled while NASA was pushed under the carpet, and Constellation fell prey to Capitalism. Maybe it was our last hope, now our economy is in ruins. Maybe for the sake of money, our governments have already doomed us to ultimate destruction. Maybe by ourselves or something extraterrestrial like a meteorite.

Of course, there's another angle you could look at this from. Maybe it's actually a reflection upon a past civilisation, one that was itself torn apart by the problems we face today. Maybe it's more about the idea of panspermia and how our race could have been created by life spread from elsewhere in the galaxy. 'Cross Pollination' implies that people left the planet which was probably in danger of destruction, to save the race, and 'Redemption' is a somewhat tragic view of the survivors reaching earth and begging -someone- to let them have a new chance and not make the same mistakes again. Of course, the tragic thing is that because of human nature, the exact same thing as the album on the whole describes is unfolding before us. Maybe the symphony is a warning - that we may suffer extinction because of our own actions.

Sorry for being so over-dramatic, but to be fair does the symphony not make you feel that way?

Muse – Exogenesis: Symphony Part 3 (Redemption) Lyrics 14 years ago
This trilogy is a stunning, humbling representation of the beautiful tragedy that is the Human race today, regardless of its intended meaning. It inspired me to begin thinking about writing a speech on the importance of research on space travel and leaving the Earth, before the end of our time. Matt Bellamy truly is the best composer of the 21st century.

White Lies – A Place to Hide Lyrics 14 years ago
I get a picture of a people's fear of what was to come after September 11 2001, when Bush declared 'war' on terror, from the chorus at least. People turning to their friends, and the people they love, and banding together ('I'm banging on your door, so come on and let me in; I need a place to hide, need a place to hide before the storm begins' - 'the storm' is the war at home that some people might have expected) for some sort of sense of security when the war comes. As it happens, it wasn't nearly the war that people may have expected after Bush labelled 9/11 as an 'attack' on the US and blamed a specific country.
