I believe this song has a bitter dark feel to it, let me explain my take on this fabulous song.. (In a foreign place the saving grace was the feeling That it was a heart that he was stealing Oh, he was ready to impress and the fierce excitement The eyes are bright; he couldn't wait to get away I bet the Juliet was just the icing on the cake) this says the young man is scared and in a foriegn place emotionally but it reasures him to know (in his mind) that she loves him back and he has stolen her heart. the next line I dissagree with the lyric as stated above, I believe it is : And even if somehow he could have shown you the place you wanted Well, I'm sure you could have made it that bit better on your own changing 'you' to 'he' makes the song make sense, in that the poor young man who has nievely thought this young love is forever.. the girl is harder to please and even if he could give her what she wanted it is never enough... (And I bet she told a million people that she'd stay in touch Well, all the little promises - they don't mean much When there's memories to be made) the song switches then to talking about the girl, how she starts new loves with many guys, promising loyalty but they are discarded when theres memories to be made..... (And I hope you're holding hands by New Years They made it far too easy to believe That true romance can't be achieved these days) I hpe your holding hands by new years eve, this is saying to the poor young man that he will soon be replaced... (And even if somehow he could have shown you the place you wanted Well, I sure you could have made it that bit better on your own You are the only ones who know) repeated as above, the poor young man tries to impress and keep the girl but whatever he tries she can find fault... women... you are the only ones who know !! (still love you though ;)...) |
