| this song is about his younger brother, jim, who was schizophrenic. jim ended up committing suicide after being in solitary confinement for 4 years due to his condition. This song is absolutely heart wrenching. Especially since they were raised in foster care due to their mother's own mental illness so he felt the need to protect and take care of his kid brother. it's mourning, forgiving, accepting jim's death but at the same time he hasn't found hope anywhere he's looked. so the underlying despair is heavy. | |
