| lyndon_jello may not have needed to get so upset, but after he gets upset he writes the most succinct write-up of this thread imo. I am very glad that this guy wrote about Buddhism so that lyndon_jello had to correct him, because it is the best I have read on this song. Thanks lyndon. | |

"why cant any of you idiots think of anything besides "uhh maybe its about a girl." just because thats about as deep as your thoughts go doesnt mean that all lyrics are about breakups and relationships. hes married and like 42, for fucks sake, you really think hes still writing lyrics about girls?" I mean, I hear where you are coming from. However, you awfully quick to ridicule without offering any of your own intelligent insight on the subject. Personally, I feel it is about someone he has lost. Perhaps it is someone he loved that fought for what the believed in, and now 'he has found a way, and he will return it', he also wants to see those, 'that do not know, REST IN PEACE, He is coming for you...one day, once he is dead as well (tonight). I did not go through the entire song yet, however it has that feel to me, perhaps it is what I am going through at the moment, but at least I don't tear someone else down without providing my own commentary. prick. |

OK, this might be a long stretch, but it is what always rang true when I hear this song. In college I researched a bit about Buddhism. Long story short Buddhists (from what I remember) believe that we will continually be brought back to suffer in this world until all of our 'sins' are corrected and we reach Nirvana and do not require a physical body anymore. The line, 'born in this old skin. i'm to sick i can't win i've lived with this damage too long.' Seems to me that he believes that his soul has been suffering for awhile. The line, 'i've never done no wrong, i don't deserve these bones please burn up this sin when i'm gone.' I think he can't understand why he is being made to suffer, he has done nothing wrong, and when finally he reaches Nirvana burn all the sin away so no one else suffers after him. Than the ending he keeps on mentioning that he hasn't become all he wants to be, he hasn't become anything he needs to be...means that he has not reached Nirvana yet. He also believes that he is suffering for us, maybe like a martyr somehow, because people are not looking at him and seeing what he believes, they can't feel the pain he feels, or the suffering. Ultimately he believes that we ALL should be trying to reach Nirvana, where our souls do not need this physical realm anymore...and everything that is IN this physical world, is ugly. |
