Jason Myles Goss – twilight serenade Lyrics 14 years ago
I agree with krm completely, but I would like to add that it was drugs that probably led to the friend's death.

"Well this city's growing cold, from the needle it heats.
There's howling wind rushing through these Chicago streets
Oh and you were dreaming of Alice, but you got wrapped in her chains"

The mention of a needle points to intravenous drugs and being "wrapped" in Alice's chains seems to suggest that the friend got caught up in the addiction just like this girl, Alice.

Also:
"And even midnight is burning, alive tonight like the blood in your veins"

This lyric could point to methamphetamine specifically as it can be injected and causes hyperthermia. Having never tried it though, I can't say really if it makes someone feel like their blood is on fire or anything..

Overall this is great song and rather poetic!
