This song is about Thurston cheating on Kim. She questions whether it's just the way he thinks or a "pattern of his glory." You know, a curse of being in a famous band. Groupies and such. Just pay attention to the imagery. Unbuckled belt. Is it just a story you wrote for me? A little whorey. And the nightshade that hypnotizes...The nightshade represents Thurston's charm and his ability to win her over. She doesn't like that he can win her over, but he does. It keeps growing and growing. |

This song is far more clever than any of you think, and yet not as complicated. This song is about an innocent, perhaps slightly naive girl. She's grown up, always behaving, but fell in love with a guy. She loves him dearly, and can't bring herself to lie to her mother about it. She admits it, and decides to fight for it because it's what she believes in. If you notice, she's calling 'herself' a "little trouble girl." She's so innocent in her thinking that she rather admit she's bad. It's a song about innocence and first love. It's not some "feminist" bullshit as someone else tried to point out. Sheesh. I know Kim Gordon has feminist views, but it's not the only thing she's about. If you consider the fact that Kim is also a MOM, this song has an added level of depth. |
