Technically, it doesn't contain LSD, although there are compounds in it that have a similar effect. But yeah, this stuff was big in the Middle Ages, since nobody saw the harm in letting hallucinogenic fungus grow on your grain. All those ecstatic saints who had crazy visions all the time? Yeah, ergotism. Also, the whole idea of witches having broomsticks supposedly comes from women putting ergot on phallic objects and absorbing the hallucinogenic substances vaginally, although I believe the evidence for it is rather specious. |

A beautiful end to the album. After killing Owen, Lewis finds himself with a new beginning, finally free to live his own life, rather than serving Owen's wishes. Lewis rediscovers how beautiful and incredible life is, something that he "forgot / in seeing ourselves as words upon / a paper" and is optimistic about his life without Owen's guiding hand. |

It's a propaganda song in the voice of the citizens of Lewis' home (Spectrum, I guess?) urging settlers to try to forge a new life in the New World (Heartland). It's probably meant to be Lewis singing it in a bitterly ironic manner. It's sort of hard to figure out without knowing much about the album's world. Are there any articles or interviews or anything that elaborate on the setting? I thought I read one once but I can't be sure. |
