Goldfinger – 99 Red Balloons Lyrics 14 years ago
So, this is my first time on here... I'm not really sure what to do, but here's my interpretation of the song...

Let's start with the first bit... There are two lovers(?) in a toy shop. They buy a bag of 100 balloons and let them go at dawn. Here's where politics come in... You can all say different things but what I think is this takes place in Germany. The kids let off all but one of the balloons into the sky (99 red balloons) and this is picked up on the German radar defence net, and is misinterpreted as Russian(?) W.M.D.'s. the Germans activate their army/national guard and attack the Russians prematurely. The Russians anniahlate them with their nuclear weapons, destroying the Germans (this could be seen as WWIII by some)

In the end the main character is standing in the rubble of the city. The girl has died in the battle. (he may be standing by her body or some sentimental crap like that) He pulls the final balloon out of his pocket and let's it go.

I can see a few problems with what I said, but plz don't criticize.

I would also like to ask that you put the original German lyrics up so ppl can decide for them self what they think the translation is. Also if you are going to translate it you might want to check the first line of German. Kriegsminister translates to War-minister, or secretary of war (kriegs=war minister=leader)

So yea, there it is... Have at it if u want to be a critic, just don't be too mean. (=
