was houseofclouds the only one to explain the lyrics? No one knows she's Hester Prynne Someone please tell Anne Boleyn Chokers are back in again Hester Prynne; particularly known for being a "truly liberated, defiantly sexual" character of her time. Anne Boleyn; accused of adultery and incest in 1536. My shallow guess: Character in the song (possibly Courtney, as houseofclouds interpretation would also imply) is secretly a whore, and an impending goth (choker reference?). It seems as though she's floating through life ("friendless", "pretend to have no rivals") with little self-esteem, getting closer death every day , which will be her ultimate and final rebellion ("one day she will just refuse", maybe suicide?). Will not reach old age. |
