You need physical pain to alievate some emotional pain, try the snapping the rubber band tactic. I'm sure there are many less dangerous ways to deal with pain. Interesting. Here's an analogy. Sometimes I use this site for purely musical reasons...interpreting lyrics, adding bios (cause i love to write and I love music), adding lyrics (because I respect the musician and his craft). Sometimes I come here because I'm excited about a song I just heard or the artist behind it, and I crave commenting. Sometimes I'm here to help improve the site in some little way (because I love music and want others to enjoy it using great lyrics site). And let's be honest....somtimes I come to stick it to someone...to say here I am; you need to suffer for your lie to me. I want you to see me in all my glory and know what you will never have. I want you to FEEL your choice. Yup, there's the bitch factor. And sometimes there are the compassionate moments when I feel another's pain and want to reach out (against my better judgment 'cause I know tonight or tomorrow night or next month she'll have someone else to boost her spirits). Just maybe when the constants are altered, so are the results. And just maybe one has to look at the history established, it's length, and its openess to realize that some situations are simply new, different, and possible. But that would take trust, and humans are not often good at feeling vulnerable. |

I heard this song yesterday while driving in town. For the very first time I didn't know if I should smile or cry. It sounds as though his wife died and he saw someone who looked like her in a yard. And it brought back all those warm feelings he had for her while she was alive. He's fortunate, because sometimes time changes how one views the past. Sometimes a realization hits that you really have nothing to offer, and the person could never be happy or excited with/by you, even if she or he ever were able to make the leap, which really makes it a moot point. I look at my twin boys who are adults now each time my mind dares wander to "what if's." And then I automatically know where I stand. The daily reminder has been good for me...snapping me into reality and futility. |

It's about a guy who likes to delude himself into believing he's free. He's no different than a horse chained to a handrail...or a man chained to the same choices he keeps making time and time and time again even though he keeps getting exactly the same results. Please, how many horses does it take to please a man into old age when they all look, feel, smell, think, behave the same, and not one of those horses has a clue about the rider. If free is taking the easiest path possible and lying to oneself about true freedom, fun, and love, than by all means he's free. I do think, though, he needs to be toking big time and downing some strong booze if he's gonna convince himself (or anyone for that matter) of it. Please refrain from discussing a religion you obviously know nothing about because you are not speaking about the Catholic faith. Being homosexual is not the sin; rather, acting on the urges is the sin. It's not a mortal sin, though. Also, It's not about Catholics. It's about all honest Christian faiths. God was very clear in His bible that man is with woman. The only time homosexuality is addressed is in the Old Testament, and it was obviously not liked. Any honest Chrisitian would admit that if God/Jesus were present physically today, He would not support the nonsensical "gay marriage." He would love the homosexual male/female as much as He does the straight male/female, but he would never condone the sin (the action). Again, it is not "Catholic thought," it is honest Christian thought, and being gay is not "wrong," but acting on gay sex is. God expects homosexuals to bear their heavy cross, but realizes they are fallible humans. She uses nature as methaphors...the ocean tides (changes and challenges), the snow-covered hills, the landslides, etc. White represents purity. And should she mess up, the landslide occurs...devastation, etc. The song's simply about what Dirran13 said on 12.2.12, although I'm not convinced the song has any connection to Nicks and a drug habit. I have to add that I've never really liked this band. I have always disliked Nicks' voice and found the songs rather boring. |

SUCH a talented musician! I think it's about a man who loves a female and it's possibly the first time he has experienced honest love...honest in that he has allowed her to know him like no other. And he knows her (to a point). I believe it's the first time he's exprienced true friendship, and the first time someone asked him (or forced him) to re-evaluate his life's choices, the path he's always taken, why perhaps that is, and how short-sighted he is not only about true freedom, but about his true (and wonderful) self. It's about a man (Elliott?) who has never trusted anyone, especially not himself. He finds it difficult to trust, but wants desperately to do so. He convinces himself that if he opens himself up anymore to this person, he will lose his identity...be forced to live her life, be forced into her expectations, and be forced to fail because failure has been the result of every relationship he's ever had. His family perhaps let him down so any true love will do the same. Keeping her (him?) at arm's length will keep him safe from abandonment, safe from risk, but also away from reward...for with any real love comes great reward. It may also be about Elliott feeling sad that the person who took his heart is not the type to make him feel good about himself. Perhaps she (or he) is older, not physically attractive, not anyone who would look good on his arm. Perhaps if she or he were, he would be better able to take risk, to try something new, to stop making excuses, and to stop thinking the end of the world would come if he had her and then she let him go. The song is so short-sighted. Eventually all those we keep at arm's length move on...they tire of feeling used and used up. They tire of others receiving all the real perks (the hand-holding, the small talk in bed at night, the cuddling and wrapping ankels and feet together, the dancing in the moonlight, etc). The last line may be about him/her making him face the realities of his decisions, which makes him angry. Sadly, the only 'lie" is those he tells himself to justify his actions...to convince himself he's truly free and not caged. Emotionally that's not the case. |

I adore this band, but I HATE HATE HATE this song. And sadly, there are more like this from other bands. I believe I've heard them all. Nobody cuts when s/he is happy. Nobody. People cut to stop emotional pain. And the pain doesn't stop. It make temporarily lessen, but that's only because the concentration switches to the physical pain. There are ALTERNATIVES to cutting that aren't so dangeous and don't leave permanent scars. It's ironic that when someone we love cuts, we want to kill them! An anger builds up inside, but I suppose that's because we feel powerless to intervene; powerless to be heard; and powerless to convince the person that it WILL get better. Again, LOVE the band, but detest this song. Anything that either glorifies or condones cuting is irresponsible. Songs reach the ears of the young and impessionable, as well as the older and emotionally down. I wish musicians would be more responsible, but then again I wish they'd also keep their politics and anti-Christian bias out as well...and we ain't gonna see that happening any day soon:) Cutters, STOP. This is an adorable song...so innocent. And Church has such a special voice...just perfect. Who hasn't been "glitterbombed," having that feeling of elation after starting a new relationship with someone very special. I haven't been "glitterbombed" in decades, but one never forgets. I liken it to looking out the window as a child on Christmas Eve as you await the arrival of Santa Claus, all the while the soft, constant snow is falling and the windows begin to fog. You take your arm and hurridly try to wipe away the condensation. It's a special type of high...of anticipation...of anxiety (but good anixety)...you feel alive as the little hairs on your arm stand at attention. "Glitterbombed" is that high of new love...the anticipation of a long-term love relationship, the kind when you begin to complete each other's sentences (not on purpose and hopefully not often:) and you'd rather take a punch than allow anyone else to harm the person you desire heart, soul, body, and mind. Ah, we all should be "glitterbombed" at least once in our livetimes. I've been glitterbombed twice (long ago) and both relationships were extremely rewarding, regardless of their eventual ends. |
