I think this song is basically Keith's feelings in terms of being in the music industry and the Kind of resentment that can be birthed by that kind of profession or any profession really. I think it speaks to the frustration of sacrificing time with family and loved ones putting so much of oneself into something, in this case music, and getting empty promises in return from the people that write your paychecks. The part about the lying crowd of snakes might allude to a situation of people that may have pretended to have been there to support someone through the frustrations of the profession. I also think the term love used in this song simultaneously alludes to a specific person and the love of the craft of music as well. When He says his love is drying up in an infirmary and that his love doesn't reap what he sows it seems implied that the state of a specific person and also his love for the craft of music/writing don't reflect what he has invested. |
