| I think this song is actually when the two people in the relationship are the ones who think it'll work and everyone else is telling them it won't work. They're trying to prove them wrong by fixing all their problems and working hard at the relationship but in the end the guy just can't take people constantly telling them they won't work and he leaves because it's too much for him. I think the tone just really has a tone of proving themselves to everyone else. I also think the "walk it off" is referring to ignoring what everybody else is saying about them. | |

I personally think it's about a girl who doesn't think of herself as particularly good looking but in reality she's gorgeous and that's where "Belle of the Boulevard" comes from. I think she doesn't think very highly of herself and so she makes herself look like a slut and so guys come on to her and that's where the for now you let him, just this once, just for now and just like that, its over comes from. like most people are saying it's like telling you to keep your chin up. it sounds as though the girl he's talking to may be a friend of his or someone else he cares about, maybe even just a girl he saw on the street that he thought was good looking. really, it's a really inspiring song and it's sad and happy at the same time. all in all an amazing song. |

First of all I think this is one of the best songs of all times. Now, I'm not gonna deny, I was a bit too lazy to read the previous comments but I think that it is clear the song is about a dying relationship. I wants things to get better and just to take things one step at a time "Come on skinny love just last the year Pour a little salt we were never here" She's asking so much from him but he's willing to do anything for her and their relationship "I tell my love to wreck it all Cut out all the ropes and let me fall" "Right in the moment this order's tall" She feels she doesn't love him anymore and he doesn't understand how she could just stop loving him, then he's saying that if she doesn't let him love her he won't be able to comfort her, feel the pain for her and protect her. It ends off with him essentially saying he still cares even though it seems she doesn't. |

I think you guys are all right, but all combined. This song has spiritual aspects, relationship aspects, and him finding himself aspects. About a month ago, I was going through what is explained in the first verse. "It's not my destiny to be the one that you will lay with So many reasons why I have to go but want to stay here" in the spiritual way he feels like he's being told that he's not meant to be with her and he realizes that's true but he doesn't want to leave her "Sometimes I want to taste, but then I don't know what I'm saying You are the angel and I am the one that is praying" he wants to and knows he has to find the one he'll end up with but once again, he doesn't want to. also he feels as though God put her in his life to give him experience and put him on the right path and he is praying for help "There is another love that I would rather be obeying I see the ecstasy, and already I'm anticipating I feel a deeper peace, and that deeper peace is a trade-in I've got the magic in me, I am complete is what I'm saying" this verse is very spiritual, the other love his God. the ecstasy is the feeling he sees others with when they're so close to God. the deeper peace is the peace his soul will be in after he ends the relationship and moves on. the magic is him coming to terms with what he has to do and with himself, bringing the relationship to an end will make him at peace. "I'm flying up so high, my purple majesty displaying I've reached a higher place that no one else can make a claim in" he's feeling the ecstasy and he feels like a king (purple is a the colour associated with royalty) and well majesty explains itself. he's reached a higher place as in he feels like he is where he needs to be with his life and no one can change that because things are finally right. "I'll take you there my friend, I'm reaching out my hand, so take it We are the angels and we are the ones that are praying" he is now reaching out to the one he has to leave because he doesn't want to hurt her because he does still care about her and he wants to help her through this and come to peace with herself. they are the angels as in they are at peace and they are praying-a literal reference to praising God "peace, shalom" well he is at peace with himself, and shalom which is a very powerful word to put here, represents that he is at peace with God and he is also at peace with the girl he used to be with and the one he is with now sorry it was so long but that's just my interpretation of it, I know you guys may not agree but we all have our opinions right? |
