Conor Oberst – Enola Gay Lyrics 11 years ago
It could be about the distance from which a songwriter communicates with a person or an audience. Enola Gay was the name of the plane that dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima, and the song seems to be about someone making music, so it could be about how someone can have a huge impact on someone or something without actually being present to talk to them. And also, I think its just about keeping your ego in check, especially when it comes to being in a collaborative effort, like a band. And damn.. Nate Walcott on the Piano in the chorus, he didn't do much on the album, but that's such a great hook! Great Song, Great Album

My Morning Jacket – Wordless Chorus Lyrics 13 years ago
I think its a song about moderation and keeping your life balanced.

The fissure and the carton of eggs he refers to is the ability to split your life into different sections (ie family, music, work other hobbies) and not just having to focus on one thing, all the time.

Bright Eyes – Ladder Song Lyrics 13 years ago
I can't figure out the meaning behind the line, "Bought a mantra to concentrate, car alarm or hissing snake"

The best I can come up with is that you can try to block out your fears in life by resorting to meditation or positive thinking, but there will always be something (fear of death) to break your concentration like a car alarm in the distance, or a snake about to strike.

What do you guys think?

This is kind of cool...

In the lyrics booklet the line "Any expression of love is a way to return" has the word "return" missing. It could be a mistake, or it could be Connor planting a little "expression of love" for someone he loved to return.
